Nirvana gets The "B" Word on YouTube!

Nirvana is still breaking and setting records over 30 years since they last played together.

The band now has the first grunge video to pass 2 billion views on YouTube! "Smells Like Teen Spirit," first appeared on MTV in 1991 and went on to help Nirvana to the Best New Artist and Best Alternative Group video wins at the MTV Awards. Made with a budget between $30K and $50K, the video is now one of over 100 music videos that have surpassed the 2 Billion mark on YouTube.

There are a handful of other rock videos that share that rare air, with Twenty One Pilots "Stressed Out" at 3.08 billion views, and "Heathens" surpassing 2.26 billion. Linkin Park gives Nu Metal a nod with "Numb" at 2.51 billion and Guns‘N’Roses stands tall with "November Rain" at 2.29 billion.

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” is widely considered the atomic bomb that radically changed the shape of music to a less excess filled 90’s, and dominated airwaves long before there ever was a thing like YouTube in the ether, so the accomplishment of hitting a number like that with a song that old is a testament to the greatness of one of rock’s most legendary bands.
