J. Willoughby founded the Black Jacket Symphony in 2009 after hearing a radio ad celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Beatles’ Abbey Road, followed by an advertisement for a live performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
"If an orchestra can recreate a work that people love from the 1800s, why can’t we recreate a work that people love from 1969?” Willoughby asked himself. And from that, The Black Jacket Symphony was born. Willoughby initially performed in almost all of the album recreations, but has since honed his focus on albums by The Beatles, Eagles, and Tom Petty.
After deciding to embark on recreating some of rock and roll’s greatest classic rock albums, Willoughby was put in touch with Jason Rogoff, who at the time was working with bands Soundgarden, Lenny Kravitz, and Matisyahu, to name a few.
Rogoff brought his touring and production experience to create a visual experience that is comparable to an arena-level touring production.
The BLACK JACKET SYMPHONY will recreate the iconic album, Led Zeppelin IV, live in its entirety—note for note, sound for sound—plus perform a full set of Led Zeppelin’s greatest hits.
