Sacramento Zoo Welcomes Baby Lemur, Flamingo & a Baby Giraffe is on the way

The Sacramento Zoo is welcoming lots of sweet, little babies! On July 3rd, mongoose lemurs Dahlia and Elmo, welcomed a baby (believed to be male). This is particularly exciting because these lemurs are critically endangered.

Additionally, Shani the giraffe is currently pregnant and expected to give birth later this summer. This makes the 21st giraffe calf born at the Sacramento zoo since 1964.

In a statement, the Sacramento Zoo had this to say:

“If the calf is a female, she will stay with her herd. If the calf is a male, he will move onto a different herd after two years, reflecting a normal family cycle.”

The Sacramento Zoo also had a healthy baby flamingo chick hatch on Fourth of July.
