Most Expensive Car In The World, Sold

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe sold for $142.9 million (purchased by a mystery buyer). The vehicle comes from Mercedes' own collection, and the buyer reportedly lobbied the car company for over a year to purchase the car. According to RM Sotheby’s (auction house), funds from the sale will be used toward a worldwide scholarship program for climate change education and research.

The Silver Arrow coupe, as it's known, is one of nine road-legal 300 SLR coupe versions with speeds up to 180 mph (making it one of the fastest road-lead cars of it's time). The Silver Arrow that just sold is only one of two (known to exist), known as "Red" for its interior. ("Blue", owned by Mercedes, is on display.) Red only had 6,045 km (~3,756 miles) on it.
