Yes, you read the headline right. A recent study surveyed 2,000 adults and 55% of the respondents believe France is where life is better.
Of the 2,000 people surveyed:
- 50% fantasize about living in France
- 31% consider moving to France
- 23% have lived in France in the past
Of the 23% that lived in France previously, they cited the following reasons for potentially relocating:
- 36% city life
- 35% the food
- 35% a better lifestyle
27% of respondents want to move to Paris
20% of respondents want to move to The French Riviera
18% of respondents want to move to Lyon
Other reasons for moving to France:

Additionally, the perception of the French lifestyle has a considerable draw:
- 41% of Americans believe the French lifestyle is fashionable
- 39% of Americans believe the French lifestyle is cultured
- 37% of Americans believe the French lifestyle is relaxed
According to Paul Baker, the founder of St. Pierre Bakery:
“It’s clear that whatever the American perception of the French lifestyle is, we certainly dream of living it. We automatically think of pastries, coffee, wine and cheese, and that’s just the food and drink. France is also recognized for its art galleries, unique landmarks and mixture of cityscapes and beaches.”
59% of the survey respondents believe they know what to expect of a life in France because of pop culture shows like “Emily in Paris”. (Good luck with that.)
