In Wilton, New York, Jamie Gagne has been trying to get his workshop going and was cited by the town council for constructing it out side of him home (a violation, he also lacked planning codes).
In protest, he decided to carve a giant penis (out of a pine tree) and erect it outside of his budding workshop, encouraging people to stop by and take pictures with it.
Gagne, ultimately, was arrested "publicly displaying offensive sexual material".
After some deliberation, Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen has decided that Gagne can keep the Wilton Woody (the Penis' name), so long as it is kept out of view of the road and not visible by his neighbors. The charges have been adjourned, and will be dropped if Gagne agrees to:
- Comply with the town code
- Does not get into any more disputes with his neighbors
Gagne had this to say to his local News station:
"The Wilton Woody saga finally reached its unexciting conclusion after a year and a half of nonsense. All but 2 of the 13 international property code violations I was accused of were dismissed on condition of resolving the issues with the building permit, the 2 that remained left me with a fine of $250. My lawyer assured me that although it’s not a victory it’s probably the best outcome I could’ve hoped for."
