New York Anchor Suspended After Looking Disheveled & Slurring Words On-Air

Over the weekend, CBS6 Albany anchor Heather Kovar appeared disheveled and was slurring her words throughout the broadcast, which has since gone viral. You can watch the clip below:

The broadcast began with her discussing a gas explosion at a plant in Medford, Oklahoma.

Here's a write-up of what Kovar said on live television:

"Evacuations have been ordered for the town of Medford, Oklahoma, with unknown fatalities and injuries…injuries are unknown in this situation. All right, so, well, hello! Good afternoon! Like, I was telling you this morning, if you watched us this morning…I told you, you know what? What a beautiful day outside! It is just amazing."

She then began to transition to weather, struggling to report on the heat waves going on throughout the country. And when it came time to turn the broadcast over to the meteorologist, she said the wrong name.

In a statement, Kovar explains that she had just returned from family leave following the death of her father and was working not a double, but a triple.

.Following the broadcast, Kovar stepped down.

She states:

"On Friday, I notified the station I would not be renewing my contract which expires July 31. Saturday I was scheduled to work the early morning 6 a.m. shift and the evening shift. I was sleep-deprived and exhausted."

The CBS affiliate has stated that Kovar "will remain off the air for the remainder of her contract".
