The Perfect AC Temperature: 64 Degrees!

A recent survey of 2,000 Americans was conducted by OnePoll and Dave & Busters, concluding that people basically hate summer. Of those surveyed, they believe five hours/day outside is "just enough" and 38% of Americans would opt for less time. 53% of Americans believe that summer is best spent indoors. Some of the reasons cited for their disdain toward the sunny season are:

  • 35% hate feeling sweaty
  • 32% hate bugs
  • 31% hate getting sunburnt

Many Americans claim that some of their worst experiences are during the summer, including:

  • Feeling faint from the heat
  • Getting a second-degree sunburn at the pool
  • Getting dressed up and sweating

However, one of the things that most Americans enjoy most about summer is stepping into an air-conditioned house. And according to the survey, the perfect temperature to run the AC at is 64 degrees.

  • 55% of those surveyed prefer staying inside during the summer because planning outdoor events is a hassle
  • 53% of those surveyed say they look search out indoors fun during the summer

Brandon Coleman, the senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Dave & Busters states:

“A majority of Americans are actually planning on making summer memories indoors and it’s easy to understand why. Cranking up the AC, and dining, drinking and playing games are top choices for enjoying the most of the summer months. For a long time, the idea of a ‘summer in the great outdoors’ has reigned as king, and frankly, it’s time for a shakeup. Spending time indoors is far from boring with endless entertainment possibilities for people of all ages. It’s easy to see how some of the best summer memories are made inside!”

When it comes to indoor summer activities, many of those polled enjoy the following:

  • 37% prefer to catch up over yummy food
  • 31% prefer to go shopping
  • 25% prefer to visit an arcade
