Three Arrested In Modesto Sunglass Hut Robberies

As of Thursday, three people have been arrested in Modesto, in relation to the string of thefts at Sunglass Hut, resulting in the loss of an estimated $2 million worth of merchandise (across the state).

The string of thefts began in April, when four people entered a Modesto-area Sunglass Hut wearing face masks and grabbed 200 sunglasses in less than a minute. Reports claimed they fled in a gray Honda with stolen license plates. A similar occurrence happened on May 4th and May 12th (in Atwater).

As of Thursday, Modesto Police arrested 25-year-old Corey Wyatt (Vallejo), 22-year-old Rayquan Murray (San Leandro) and 19-year-old Jada Aikens (San Francisco) in connection to the thefts.

Detectives were building a case against Wyatt, who was spotted on Thursday with two accomplices. They arrived in a stolen SUV, wearing masks and hoods. They attempted to enter Sunglass Hut, but were blocked by employees. They walked away and went into Macy's, where they stole ~$10,800 worth of cologne and other merchandise. They were surrounded by detectives as they ran out of Macy's, were arrested and taken into custody by Modesto PD. They face a myriad of charges, including: burglary, conspiracy, grand theft, resisting arrest, felon in possession of a firearm, vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. Additionally, according MPD, Wyatt has several other warrants out for his arrest by Manteca Police, Walnut Creek Police, San Francisco Police, Alameda County Sheriff’s Department and Monterey Police (for similar crimes). Thus far, Wyatt is on the line for the bulk of the robberies and police are still determining the degree of which Murray and Aikens were involved in the string of thefts.
