Why That Old Car May Not Be Safe For Your Teen

A study conducted by researchers at Nationwide Children's Hospital found that driving vehicles that are 6-15 years old increases the risk of driver death in fatal crashes by 19%, while driving vehicles older than 15 years increases the risk by 31%. Teen drivers were more likely than middle-aged drivers to drive older vehicles and those with fewer driver assistance technologies, which are associated with a higher risk of death in fatal crashes. The study highlights the importance of safe vehicle strategies and education for families to prioritize safety features when choosing vehicles for teen drivers to reduce the risk of motor vehicle crashes and fatalities. The findings emphasize the need for families to ensure that teens drive newer and safer cars to enhance driving safety for both teens and other road users.
