California lawmakers are pushing forward with more than a dozen bills aiming to address the fentanyl crisis ahead of a critical deadline later this week. Some of the bills aim to impose harsher prison sentences for dealers and enforce more education for schools and parents. Some of the bills even focus on overdose prevention like storing Narcan on school campuses across the state. Legislators are scrambling to finish debating all bills in both the state Assembly and Senate by Friday, which is the last day a bill can get passed to potentially become a law. The majority of the 16 fentanyl bills that are advancing are focused on education, prevention and treatment of fentanyl overdose.
