The West Nile Virus is in Sacramento County, according to the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District. The virus was found in mosquitoes caught in a trap near Elk Grove. Late in May a dead bird infected with the virus was found south of American River College.
Officials are recommending that people begin to take necessary precautions to protect themselves.

• Fever
• Headache
• Fatigue
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Body aches
• Occasional skin rash
• Eye pain or swollen lymph glands
Most people with West Nile fever will recover completely, but fatigue and weakness can last for weeks or months. Rare cases can cause brain damage or death.
