Investigation Started After UC Regent Accused Of Sexual Misconduct

The University of California is looking into an allegation by a graduate student that a UC regent touched her upper thigh during a dinner five years ago.

UC Santa Cruz doctoral student Rebecca Ora made the complaint during a public UC regents meeting on Wednesday. She said Regent George Kieffer touch her inappropriately while the two were having dinner in 2014. She added that she first tried to forget about what happened, but wasn't able to do that, so she reported the incident to the UC a year and a half ago.

Kieffer is denying Ora's description of what happened that night and called it a "false allegation." He also told the San Francisco Chronicle that he's cooperating with the UC's investigation.

UC spokeswoman Claire Doan said an outside investigator has been hired by the university.
