Fatal High School Shooting In Santa Clarita

Several law enforcement agencies responded to a high school campus after a school shooting in Southern California on Thursday morning.

The California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Police Department, and County law enforcement agencies all descended on Saugus High School in Northern Los Angeles County. The teen suspect reportedly initially survived a self-inflicted gunshot wound after reportedly fleeing from the school in Santa Clarita, where three students who were shot died later at the hospital and others were injured.

The gunman was only described as a 16-year-old Asian boy wearing all black. It's unclear what prompted the shooting. He was able to leave the campus before authorities could get there.

A home believed to be the alleged shooter's was surrounded and cleared by police officers. A home next door was also reportedly searched.

Several schools in the area were placed on lockdown because of the shooting, but many of the lockdowns were lifted a short time later.

President Trump was said to be monitoring developments in the school shooting. Spokesman Judd Deere explained that the White House is urging "all those in the area to follow the advice of local law enforcement and first responders." The ATF also was said to be sending agents to the scene in northern Los Angeles County.

Governor Gavin Newsom also noted that he was following the situation in Santa Clarita. "Jennifer and I extend our thoughts to the parents, families and friends of the students and faculty, and the Santa Clarita community," he said in a written statement.
