Workers Walk Picket Line During 24 Hour UC Davis Strike

Over 200 union workers at U.C. Davis Medical Center and the university campus in Davis walked out on Wednesday for a 24 hour strike.

Stalled contract talks with the University of California led to the walkout.

This is the third strike this year in the university system, and workers say they are frustrated and concerned over the lack of livable wages and job security.

Contract talks have been going on for two years, and the last offer in February was rejected by union members.

Claire Doan, a spokesperson for the university, said union workers earn 20-percent more in pay than they did five years ago. Also, Doan noted the U.C. system cannot afford the union's demand for a 26-percent increase in salaries over a four year period.
