Update: Fatal Roseville Officer Involved Shooting

One of the victims in a deadly Tuesday night shooting spree which stretched from Newcastle to Loomis and Roseville has been identified.  The Placer County Sheriff’s Department said Mary Toste, 93, was in her Penryn home when she was struck and killed by gunfire.  Investigators say the unidentified suspect fired several gunshots from his truck as it traveled along Rock Springs Road in Penryn.

The other victim was shot as he was driving in the area.  That man drove himself to the Loomis Fire Station to get medical treatment.  He was eventually taken a nearby hospital.

Placer County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to calls Tuesday night of a man brandishing a gun and firing shots. The office says the suspect shot at least people between Newcastle and Loomis.

Deputies caught up with the alleged suspect who was driving in the area of westbound Interstate 80 near Highway 65 in Roseville where he crashed into another driver.

Sheriff's officials say that as deputies moved in to make the arrest, there was a "gun battle" and both the suspect and a police dog were wounded.

The suspect died later from his injuries.  The dog is expected to survive.

Investigators have currently identified seven crime scenes between Newcastle and Roseville, and they said that their investigation continues.
