For people who suffered a job loss, especially those who have become unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there's good news from the United Parcel Service. They're filling over 1,500 seasonal jobs in the Bay Area to handle the expected holiday increase in deliveries that should run through January of next year.
Company officials said wages for season workers have increase to $38 per hour. In addition, eligible seasonal employees who are students and stay with the company for three straight months can earn up to $1,300 towards college expenses, on top of their their hourly pay.
For those who continue with the company after the holiday season, UPS said permanent full-time and part-time jobs come healthcare, retirement benefits, and up to $25,000 in college tuition assistance.
The hiring is taking place in Oakland, Richmond, San Francisco, San Jose, Sunnyvale, and San Ramon.
Nationally, UPS expects to hire over 100,000 seasonal employees.
