A major operation took place east of Fresno Saturday night, as people were trapped at the Mammoth Pool Reservoir, due to the Creek Fire.

Fire and law enforcement agencies from the area, as well as members of the National Guard, took part in the operation.

Two Blackhawk helicopters and a Chinook flew patients to a National Guard base at a nearby airport.

EMS officials said 20 people were taken to the hospital with six in the Community Regional Medical Center's burn unit.

Fresno County EMS Director Dan Lynch said, "There were several critical patients. Some with broken bones. Some with burns. Many with lacerations and abrasions."

The fire, which has quickly grown to 45,500 acres with zero percent containment as of Sunday morning, is also one of the main contributors to smoky Sacramento skies.
