Yosemite National Park opened a $7 million Starbucks coffee bar on March 16 as part of its new food court, Base Camp Eatery.
Prior to the coffee giant's first day of business at the Yosemite Valley Lodge, an online petition attempted to stop the chain from ruining the park's vibe, saying:
"Multinational corporations have no place in our National Parks. The opening of a Starbucks in Yosemite Valley opens the door to further undue development. The Park will lose its essence, making it hardly distinguishable from a chaotic and bustling commercial city."
Although the Starbucks bar opened, no signage for it exists around the park or eatery.
The building's interior design was created to honor Yosemite's iconic rock climbing structures.
