Led Zeppelin Announce Record Store Day Release Then Delete Announcement

Led Zeppelin fans had some good times and bad times on Monday. Not long after posting that they'll release a replica of the "Trampled Underfoot" 1975 U.K. promo single on seven-inch vinyl for Record Store Day's Black Friday sale on November 28th, the post disappeared with no explanation given. The promo single, which featured "Black Country Woman" on the B-side, was originally given to U.K. retailers who ordered 10 or more copies of 1975's Physical Graffiti album and has gone on to become a collector's item. The single was officially released in other markets, including the U.S. and Canada. This isn't the first time Zeppelin promised something and didn't deliver. In 2020, they announced the limited-edition reissue of a Japanese vinyl seven-inch single of 1970's "Immigrant Song." But the release of the 19,700 (for 1979) copies was scrapped the day before it was to ship.

In other Zeppelin-related news, earlier this month Jimmy Page flew to Belfast, Northern Ireland to celebrate Van Morrison’s 80th birthday and to attend an event at Waterfront Hall that Morrison planned for his book of lyrics, Lit Up Inside & Keep 'Er Lit. Page's girlfriend,

actress and poet Scarlett Sabet, participated in the event. Page says, "As we arrived at the hotel, we were in luck because Van was there too so we joined him and had a really great catch-up immediately and a quality time together. I had missed out on seeing Van for quite a while, for what seems like a very long time, as I usually like to meet him for a catch-up if he passes through London." Page and Morrison go back to the mid-'60s when he played guitar on Morrison and Them's "Baby, Please Don't Go", "Mystic Eyes" and "Here Comes the Night".

Morrison has released a live version of "Back to Writing Love Songs" from his 80th birthday concerts at Waterfront Hall in Belfast. Originally released on his latest album, Remembering Now, the song is on YouTube.

That show was originally released on VHS and Laserdisc as The Cars – Live 1984-1985, and it's the first time it's appeared on CD. The set also includes track-by-track notes from keyboardist Greg Hawkes and an essay on the artwork by drummer David Robinson, who designed all the band's album covers. Heartbeat City, released in March 1984, went on to be The Cars' biggest selling album, going four-times platinum. There's also a three-CD version that has the original album and all its original B-sides on one disc, a disc of single edits plus a couple of re-recorded tracks from that era, and a disc of various remixes.

This is the fourth time that album has been reissued -- a single disc with seven bonus tracks came out in 1999; a two-disc reissue in 2006 with seven B-sides as well as seven-inch and 12-inch versions; and box set in 2014 with four CDs and two DVDs. (This new three CD reissue just duplicates the first three CDs from that out-of-print box set.) FREDDIE MERCURY: A Day at the Garden

Queen guitarist Brian May and Freddie Mercury's sister Kashmira Bulsara were on hand last Friday in the London suburb of Feltham for the dedication of the Freddie Mercury Memorial Garden. The garden is located on Feltham Green and includes a plaque, a pair of cherry trees donated by Japanese fans, a rose bush supplied by Kashmira, an 'eco-cabin' intended as a hub for local residents, and a plaque noting Mercury's connection to the area. Mercury's family emigrated to London from Zanzibar in the spring of 1964 to escape the violence of the revolution against the Sultan of Zanzibar and his mainly Arab government, in which thousands of ethnic Arabs and Indians were killed. They moved to Feltham, Middlesex, 13 miles west of central London. Freddie Mercury died from complications related to AIDS on November 24th,

1991. He was 45.

STEVIE NICKS: Fat Shamed Herself

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham haven't issued any statements or given interviews in support of last Friday's reissue of their 1973 album, Buckingham Nicks. But Stevie has now shed a little light on that chapter of her career, posting a letter she wrote to her parents and brother Chris while recording it. She says, "My mom saved it and it’s been in a drawer for over 50 years."

Dear Mom and Dad and Chris,

Well, here I am - once again at the 'famous' Sound City Recording Studio. I am getting very tired of sitting around listening to 12 hours of music per day. Oh well, I know it will pay off in the end, and when I am sitting in my small but luxurious Beverly Hills home overlooking my small but tasteful pool that is totally secluded, where I can sun in the nude and tan my entire fat body while waiting for my plastic surgery leg lift - it will all be worth it. Otherwise, everything here is just 'peach-y'.

I hope that all of my little family is doing fine and not working too hard. I am sure that dad is already beautifully tan and lythe - making those gorgeous blue grey eyes even more sparkling than they usually are. How sickening that he looks better than I do at 47(?) and I’m only 25. (Give me a break, Dad!)

Speaking of being almost 25 - I have decided that we should set aside the entire month of May to celebrate the fact that I am now 1 quarter of a century old. A new landmark like this should not simply be passed over as yet another birthday, but should include a gala celebration. I shall leave it to the three of you to plan it. By the way, presents will be accepted any time after the first of May - no C.O.D’s please.

Moving right along - I just want to say that I certainly do miss you all, and wish you could be here to hear some of this stuff. By the way - Dad and Chris - that rock and roll tune that you both liked ('Baby Baby, don’t treat me so bad') with the fancy guitar work is almost finished and Lindsey may go down in history as one of 'greats' in guitar playing. It really is quite amazing.

Well, no more news as of yet - so much love to you all - and hold good thoughts about this thing.

I love you,

Stevie

Although Buckingham Nicks wasn't a commercial success, unbeknownst to them at the time, it would go on to pave their way into Fleetwood Mac. A year later, in the fall of 1974, Mick Fleetwood met Lindsey at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles and engineer Keith Olsen played him a track off Buckingham Nicks. "Lindsey's guitar playing was very haunting and full of melody and completely musical sounding. And that is how a good guitar player that I've been used to playing with -- not the same style, but the same drive was there to me. He knows what he's doing. He understands what to do and when to it." Ironically, Fleetwood was only interested in Buckingham joining, but Lindsay said he would join only if Stevie were included.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: Delivers New Information

Let's see how much you know about Bruce Springsteen. Scott Cooper, writer and director of the upcoming movie Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, tells Empire it contains "new information to even his most ardent fans -- not covered in his Broadway show, or in documentaries, or in his memoir.” He adds that he and Springsteen "discussed that this was going to be a film so far removed from the mythology of the rock star. The thing that was most important to him was that this would be no hagiography. "And he never once asked me to sand off the rough edges. But would you expect anything else from Bruce Springsteen? This man who’s the reluctant moral conscience of America?” Based on Warren Zanes' 2023 book about the making of Springsteen's Nebraska album, it will be screened at the New York Film Festival on Sunday followed by the AFI (American Film Institute) Fest on October 22nd in Hollywood. It opens in theaters on October 24th.
