U.S. Senate candidate and Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff fell victim to San Francisco's notorious car burglary problem on Thursday (April 25). Per Newsmax, thieves stole his luggage from his car while it was parked in a downtown garage, leaving him without a suit for a dinner party he was attending.

Schiff, who is running to replace the late Dianne Feinstein in the U.S. Senate, attended the dinner in his shirt sleeves and a hiking vest, a stark contrast to the suited attendees. Despite the unfortunate incident, Schiff remained composed and focused on the event, expressing his gratitude to attorney Joe Cotchett for his support.

"Yes, they took my bags," Schiff told the San Francisco Chronicle. "But I’m here to thank Joe."

Car burglaries have been a significant issue in San Francisco in recent years. However, recent crime statistics indicate a 35% decrease in larceny, which includes auto burglaries, in the first quarter of 2024.

Lee Houskeeper, Cotchett's press agent, joked that Schiff could go shopping with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, known for his stylish suits, to replace his stolen attire. "I guess it's, 'Welcome to San Francisco,''' Houskeeper added.

Information regarding the current whereabouts of Schiff's luggage and the burglar's identity was not reported as the investigation proceeds.
