All Older $100 Bills Now Selling For More Than $100, Some For Way More

If you see a $100 bill, chances are it is a newer version of the note, featuring a large portrait of Benjamin Franklin, but the bills didn't always look like that. Back before 1996, the bills sported a smaller portrait of Franklin in an oval, like how George Washington appears on the $1 bill. There aren't as many of those notes around these days and because of that, they are rare and collectible and selling for more than $100, with most going on eBay for between $120 and $135.

However, if you have an older bill that has a star in the serial number, it is worth at least double the face value, and if the star is not pointed upwards, it could be worth thousands. One expert on Instagram shared what to look for:

The good news is, it isn't just older $100 bills with stars in the serial number that are valuable - newer ones can go for more than face value as well. There are even websites specifically for looking up star notes that can tell you if your bill is really valuable.

As for what to do if you have a valuable bill, you can always list it on eBay or find a Facebook group for bill collectors and try selling it there. Another option is to hang on to it - it will only increase in value as the years go by.
