Chappie Hunter, a detective with the San Diego Police Department, tragically lost his left leg in a car crash eight years ago. He's worn a prosthetic leg since and still works for the PD. Hunter and his family started looking to adopt a dog and after some searching, they found 9-year old Chloe:
What drew Hunter to Chloe was her double-amputated back legs, which he says:
"[Chloe’s] been through some trauma, just like me. She has her prosthetics, just like I have mine. It’s nice to know that I might know a little about how she’s feeling. But in actuality, she’s the one taking care of me."
Hunter and his family fostered her for three months before officially adopting her.
