It's 2021 and who would've thought that:
- There would be a Grape-Nuts shortage and
- People would notice.
The brand has been around for 120 years and fans of the fiber and iron-rich breakfast food have had a hard time locating the cereal for months, leading them to believe it was discontinued. However, Post Holdings (owner of Grape-Nuts) recently confirmed there is a shortage and that they have "absolutely no plans to discontinue Grape-Nuts cereal."
The brand manager Kristin DeRock had this to say:
"People may continue to see shortages and temporary out-of-stocks on Grape-Nuts as we continue to work through supply constraints and higher cereal demand amid the pandemic."
The reason for the shortage?
According to DeRock, Grape-Nuts is made using a "proprietary technology and a production process that isn’t easily replicated, which has made it more difficult to shift production to meet demand during this time."
