The city of Sacramento has enacted a citywide curfew that starts Monday night.
The curfew will start at 8 p.m. and go until 5 a.m., Tuesday morning.
The Sacramento City Council held a special meeting at 2 p.m. and voted unanimously on the curfew.
"The violence, chaos, and destruction that took place on Saturday night and Sunday morning was unacceptable," the city said in a statement. "Our number one priority is to ensure that all people feel safe and are secure at all times throughout our community. A nighttime curfew is necessary for public safety in order to prevent personal injury, property damage, and maintain order."
500 California National Guard troops have arrived in the city. There's no word on whether this will continue on Tuesday night.
