Auburn “Butt Lady” Hits 1 Million Mark

An Auburn woman grabbed her millionth butt on Wednesday as part of a 3 1/2 year mission to rid the city of cigarette-related trash.

Sally Dawley, who is affectionately known in the community as the "butt lady," began picking up cigarette butts in October 2014 in an effort to protect local animals while also beautifying the town.

Since then, Auburn residents have become very supportive of her cause. Officials have gone as far as having wastebaskets for cigarette butts installed near bars and restaurants.

Dawley's project has landed her in countless locations from parks to parking lots where she keeps count of how many butts she's collected using a clicker.

The milestone of millionth butt was achieved on Valentine's Day in a Mel's Diner parking lot. Adoring onlookers cheered Dawley on as she announced her major achievement.

Dawley has recently been sought after by other cities looking to emulate her success.

She hopes that her story inspires others to make a difference in their community.
