Former Denver Broncos cornerback Syd’Quan Thompson was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in Sacramento on Sunday night.

Officers responded to the 3900 block of Fig Street in Del Paso Heights around 9:30 p.m. where they found a woman with minor injuries and arrested Thompson, said Sgt. Vance Chandler, Sacramento Police Department spokesman.

Witnesses to the alleged crime gave conflicting statements regarding Thompson's relationship to the woman, but reports say he did not appear to be inebriated.

The athlete was released from custody on Monday.

Thompson graduated from Grant Union High School in 2005 and went on to be a star cornerback at UC Berkeley before being drafted by the Broncos in 2010. He was released by the NFL team in 2012 after rupturing his Achilles tendon and has since returned to Grant as a defensive coach and mentor.
