The official video for Young Thug's "Wycelf Jean" is out but the clip briefly features Thugger himself. In fact, Young Thug never showed up to the music video shoot that reportedly cost $100,000 to produce. What would have been a disastrous situation, director Ryan Staake ingeniously chose to detail how the shoot went awry in one of the most creative hip-hop videos we've seen in a long time.
The video is full of text from the director, who explained that Thug only arrived at one point during the shoot but refused to leave his car. Staake runs down the initial concept for the video, which featured children cops and miniature cars. Despite the rapper not showing up, Staake cleverly cut together B-roll from the shoot and created a video far more entertaining than a typical rap video. "On my way home, I wondered if Young Thug would’ve liked the shoot we put together for him,” the text on the screen said. Staake is still shocked that the video was released.
