The old Sleep Train Arena, one time home of the Sacramento Arena, is slated to become a teaching hospital and medical school.
Yesterday, California Northstate University announced their plans to redevelop the ancient Arco Arena and turn it into a private, for profit school. Kings owner Vivek Ranadive released the following statement:
“With a medical school campus and teaching hospital, this project will serve as a hub of innovation and an economic driver for the entire region."
And Mayor Darrell Steinberg also released a statement:
“This announcement fulfills a promise to North Natomas to replace the former Kings arena with an employment center and economic engine both for the community and for the city as a whole."
This officially squashes any rumors or hopes of moving the Sacramento Zoo to the Natomas area.
