GAME OF THRONES - S7 E6 EPISODE REVIEW

First things first, if you are not caught up, move along.  The night is dark and there are obviously *spoilers* below.

You guys already know I am a huge nerd, especially when it comes to Game of Thrones.  And, every episode this season, I have pretty much been on the edge of my seat.  (Even the way too fast-paced episode where traveling throughout the seven kingdoms was basically light speed.)

Last night's episode, during Season 7 Episode 6 Beyond The Wall, was no different.  Truthfully, it was everything I had ever hoped for.

Especially these tasty bits (NSFW - Language):

I really love the dynamic of the little crew that ventured beyond The Wall, it was really well written.  Especially compared to the rag-tag group in Wonder Woman (I finally saw it yesterday), which was a huge FLOP!

Game of Thrones definitely pulled it off.

Kenny and I were definitely two little giggling girls whenever those two interacted.  It was a thing of beauty, really.

I also appreciated the scene between Arya and Sansa.  It was incredibly tense, honestly quite awkward and definitely how these two siblings should be interacting given the current situation and what they've been through.

Arya's actually quite scary these days...

Part of me wonders if the fight is actually real, though (which I hope it is).  The popular opinion out there is the two are playing Littlefinger, but if that's what is going to happen, I feel like it's really fake and forced.  (Almost Disney/Parent Trap-ish.)  In any case, I want to see more tension and fighting between the two.

Now, onto the fight scene with the dead.  Really great choreography, as usual.  Though, I did have a hard time following it.  I kept leaning over to Kenny and asking him who died.  Thoros of Myr's death was semi-expected and I told him "well Beric is on his last life"... and then The Hound says the same thing.  Both cases where Tormund and The Hound were (seperately) mobbed, I almost lost my mind.  Especially Tormund.  He's GOTTA see Brienne again!  I mean, c'mon!

^true story

But, I have a MAJOR gripe about this scene:

The minute Jon sent Gendry off to send a raven to Dany on the opposite end of the freaking world, I was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?  They 100% would've FROZEN TO DEATH by the time a raven reached her.

Kenny has been griping about the writing for this season, specifically little flaws like these.  He doesn't feel like the episodes are not as well-crafted as something George R.R. Martin would have written; and for this episode, I can longer make excuses.  I mean, the episode prior was ridiculous, but I knew they needed to hit fast-forward on the traveling just to line things up and I let it slide.

BUT COME ON.

Dany coming in to save the day is SO NOT Game of Thrones.  I mean, I think Martin may be writing something like that into the book he is working on, but I think things would've went down VERY differently.  A freaking raven would not have meant life or death for Jon and crew.  That much I know.

But, they did redeem themselves slightly with The Night King's epic javelin throw that took down Viserion.

The episode where Brom tried to take down Drogon had upset me to the point I was screaming obscenities at him (one of my favorite secondary characters), I forgave him because his aim is terrible and he wasn't able to do it.  Unlike Brom, I knew The Night King would nail his shot and my heart broke for Dany.

Jerk.

Now, Jon getting left behind was sad, but I was never once worried he was going to die (he's basically like Mr. 9 Lives at this point).  Especially when he was stumbling through the snow and wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am Uncle Benjen comes in swinging and saves the day.

And, thanks to Uncle Benjen, we all got to see what we've been dying to see since Jon first set foot on Dragonstone:

I seriously hate that I want these two to get together as badly as I do.  I blame Martin for making Cersei and Jamie a thing so that I'm like "well, they're aunt and nephew and they don't know they're related..."

...

The scene was incredibly touching, though.  (SIGH.)

Then, of course, there was the final scene where the dead dredge up Viserion.  Which is my second gripe:

^Riddle me that Batman!?

Congrats undead, you have now acquired a deadly freaking weapon (as if Giants weren't bad enough!)

Whit Viserion is pretty freaking scary.  I am both dreading and looking forward to The Night King flying in on him and having a showdown between Drogon and Viserion... and Dany having to possibly kill her child, or at least watch him die AGAIN.

Overall, the episode was still pretty good despite it's glaring flaws.  I curious how Martin would've gone about setting these situations up, but I'm just happy we're starting to get closure (cause let's face it, we're not going to see the final book for a long, long, long time).

Next Sunday is the season finale, with the (hopefully) epic showdown between the two queens.  It's gonna be fierce!
