Thrift Shop Bargain Hunters Find NASA Flight Suits Worth $20,000

Talk about an out-of-this-world deal. Two central Florida college students have turned thrift store shopping into a big score.

According to Click Orlando, Talia Rappa and Skyer Ashworth were shopping at a Titusville Thrift store closeout sale when they found five rare NASA flight suits experts say could be worth up to $5,000.

The bargain hunters paid just 20 cents each for the five blue NASA flight suits, along with a white 'control suit,' which were in the bottom of a plastic bin underneath a cache of winter sweaters. It helps that the thrift store is only located about an hour north of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

The experts at the American Space Museum were able to match the flight suits to their corresponding owners. Astronauts George “Pinky” Nelson, PhD, Robert A. Parker, PhD, and Charles D. Walker, a payload specialist , flew shuttle missions between 1983 and 1985 and could have worn the flight suits.

The students plan on offering the suits at a special auction conducted by the American Space Museum. Proceeds from the sale will be split between the musueum and Rappa and Ashworth's college tuition.
