Some young immigration activists plan to fast for several days in Los Angeles to bring attention to the controversial issue of young children crossing the southern U.S. border.
"This is a humanitarian crisis and we need to recognize that. These are small children," Yamilex Rustrian, one of seven young activists who have begun a four day fast over the issue said.
They want President Barack Obama and Congress to grant refugee status to the thousands of young migrants that have come to the United States in recent months.
The activists say the vast majority of those children are trying to flee poverty and violence in Central America.
