A new UC Davis website will let car buyers weigh the costs and benefits of getting a new plug-in electric or hybrid.
The EV Explorer bases projections off your home address. You can estimate commute costs or even the feasibility of vacations.
"And, what's interesting, is it's not just about miles per gallon anymore, it's about access to chargers, and the price of charging at home," Michael Nicholas with the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies said.
Models range from all-electrics like the Nissan Leaf to hybrids like the Toyota Prius.
You can compare them to more than 30,000 conventional-fuel vehicles as well.
