The fall term of the U.S. Supreme Court is under way and is unaffected by the partial shutdown of the federal government.

High court justices are facing a packed and varied agenda in the new term.

They will consider cases involving abortion, prayer, affirmative action, campaign finance regulation and presidential authority to make executive appointments when Congress is not in session.

Justices will also consider a challenge to the healthcare reform law involving insurance coverage of birth control.
