Are toy guns too realistic? State lawmakers are pushing for tighter restrictions again.
Several Democrats said they're planning to re-introduce legislation that would require all BB guns, pellet guns and airsoft guns to be either transluscent or painted in bright colors.
"A toy should look like a toy, it should not look like a lethal weapon," said Senator Noreen Evans of Santa Rosa.
The Senator represents the district where a 13-year-old boy was recently shot and killed by a deputy who mistook his toy for a real AK-47. That wasn't an isolated incident either.
"A study by the Department of Justice found that there are well over 200 incidences per year," said Senator Keven de Leon.
de Leon authored the original bill two years ago after another shooting in LA. That one didn't make it out of the legislature.
