The extreme cold is forcing the Sacramento Zoo to take special care of the animals right now.

Some of the animals, like the snow leopard, can handle freezing temperatures much better than others at the Sacramento Zoo.

Spokeswoman Tonja Candelaria says zookeepers have a plan.

"We are all prepared here at the zoo, it's a cold temperature for them that they're not quite used to, but we've got bedding, we've got heaters, we've got indoor areas for them, we've got things to block the wind," Candelaria said.

Zoo officials in Sacramento also have access to a network of other zoos and can get recommendations on how best to care for specific animals in extreme weather conditions.
