Sac Metro Fire rolled out some new types of ambulances today.

The red Sprinter vans are for the Single Role Paramedic Program.

The duties of the Paramedics and EMTs on these ambulances are strictly medical; they do not engage in firefighting -- like the significantly larger and louder paramedic wagons. Metro Fire's Michelle Eidam says the new units are quieter, too.

Sac Metro Fire was able to reduce costs while enhancing the District's ability to respond to medical emergencies with the new units since they get substantially better gas mileage.
