It will clean up blight. City leaders in Rancho Cordova have signed off on a new tax.
The council has voted to place a half-cent sales tax on the November ballot that would go into effect next year.
The specifics are still being worked out, but immediate funding would become available for anti-gang and after-school programs, police services, sidewalk and street repairs, and revitalizing vacant buildings along Folsom Boulevard.
Tear-downs have been a priority since the city's incorporation and progress has been made -- this would just speed it up.
No current programs would be cut without the tax. A simple majority is all that's needed for it to pass.
