Get ready for parklets to start sprouting up in Sacramento.

The Sacramento City Council likes parklets and last night voted for more.

Parklets are little green areas with seating, usually in front of a coffee house or bistro, with potted plants or actual grass the size of a couple of parking spaces.

At last night's council meeting one resident endorsed the idea.

"Parklets serve as a promising, low-cost strategy for creating walk-able cities, increasing green spaces, building community, and providing economic development opportunities," she said.

Three dozen are parklets are already found around town. Advocates say parklets encourage more interaction in neighborhoods and will give Sacramento that small-town, personable feel.

The Sacramento City Council is also planning to launch a bike-share program and convert one-to-two parking spaces into bike corrals with docking stations where bikes can be rented out.
