The battle over a California bill that would ban single-use plastic bags at grocery stores, convenience stores, liquor stores and pharmacies is heating up.

New opposition TV ads from the plastic industry are out.

Opponents claim grocers paid millions to lobby for this bill that would kill thousands of jobs.  

However, the legislation's author, state Senator Alex Padilla, is firing back, saying his bill would provide loans and grants for plastic bag manufacturers to make the transition into reusable bag production.
