Traffic was a nightmare on northbound I-5 this morning when a big rig and construction services truck collided. The accident forced the roadway to be closed for hours, turning the morning commute into a crawl in the Laguna-Pocket area.
"The driver was transported to a local hospital. I'm not sure on the condition of his injuries, but that vehicle is a construction service truck which carries diesel fuel and lubricants for refilling equipment at construction sites. That truck is on its side, the diesel initially began leaking through the hatch on the top of the truck and we have an unknown amount of fuel that was leaked across the lanes of northbound I-5" said Cosumnes Fire Spokesman John Nichallini.
The big vehicles were moved out of the roadway. Cal Trans needed to power wash the lanes because of the fuel leak and the freeway did not re-open until the afternoon.
