The girlfriend of a man who shot and injured Sacramento police dog Bodie was sentenced today to 31-years-to-life in prison.

30-year-old Leslie McCulley was convicted of attempted murder of the dog's handler, Sacramento Police Officer Randy Van Dusen.

McCulley's boyfriend, Lucas Webb, was actually the person who fired and shot Bodie during a police chase near Land Park on May 18, 2012.

Officer Van Dusen fired back, killing Webb. Bodie was seriously injured in the jaw and paw, drawing great outpouring of sympathy from the community.

In a statement to the court, Officer Van Dusen said the shooting severely impacted his family, according to The Sacramento Bee. He recounted tucking his daughter into bed the night he narrowly ducked a bullet and returned the gunfire that killed a man.
