Former U.S. House Speaker Tom Foley is dead.
News reports in Seattle say Foley had been in declining health and passed away at the age of 84.
The Washington state Democrat served as speaker of the House from 1989 to 1995. He lost his seat in the 1994 midterm elections that swept Republicans into control of the House.
Overall, Foley served in Congress for three decades.
