School buses in Folsom Cordova Unified will soon be equipped with GPS.

However, the new system won't be used for driving directions, instead, they'll make sure kids don't get lost.

The Sacramento Bee reports every student in Folsom Cordova Unified will have a GPS card that they'll swipe when they get on and off school buses.

This helps administrators make sure every child gets from home to school and back again safely.

Safety is also the impetus for upgrading recording equipment in local school buses.

Not just to keep an eye kids who are bullies, but sometimes parents who are bullies.

School officials cite a recent, tense incident involving an angry parent boarding a bus.

The GPS can also be critically important in an emergency.

For worrying parents, there are plans to allow them web access to school GPS systems, so they can make sure their kids are riding safely.
