The Elk Grove Police Department has been singled out for an honor.

The force is being credited with outstanding work in busting marijuana grows by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Sacramento. The narcotics team, was highlighted out of all the departments in the Eastern District.

That includes departments in more than 34 different counties -- from the middle of California to the Oregon border, Officer Chris Trim with the Elk Grove Police Department said. 

Trim says over the last five years, officers have been up against organized crime that sets up indoor grows inside homes.

One bust led to the arrest and prosecution of 40 cultivators at 30 homes and seized thousands of plants.
