A pedestrian was hit and killed along Marysville in Yuba County. The man, hit early Saturday morning, was a firefighter with the Tahoe Hot Shots crew.

The car that allegedly struck Michael Patrick Kelly II, was driven by one of Kelly's firefighting colleagues, who may have been drinking.

The Sacramento Bee says seven firefighters, in fact, were allegedly riding in the small Hyundai sedan at the time of the crash.

Another car initially spotted Kelly in the roadway and stopped to assist.  He even reportedly flashed his headlights at the oncoming sedan, but they did not yield.

The driver of the Hyundai reportedly thought he'd hit an animal and continued on.  It was only after two of the passengers in the car circled back to the scene that they learned they'd hit someone.

CHP is waiting for toxicology reports before pressing charges.
