Parishioners are in shock after a Davis priest was charged with statutory rape.

The Sacramento Diocese says 45-year-old Father Hector Coria of Saint James Catholic Church Coria would not return to the parish, even if cleared of all charges he faces right now.

A new priest will likely be appointed within the month.

The father was arrested Friday by Davis police.

Officials say Coria allegedly befriended the 17-year-old alleged victim in late 2013, and began a sexual relationship with her a short time later.

Coria was booked into jail on Friday, but was no longer in custody as of Saturday night.
