A Navy warship is joining the effort to rescue a California family with a sick baby girl stranded on a sailboat hundreds of miles off the Mexican Coast.

The California National Guard deployed a rescue crew which reached the disabled ship Thursday night.

Once the Navy vessel arrives, helicopters can airlift the girl and her family to the mainland.

Rescue crews say the family is in "good spirits" and the one-year-old is in stable condition.
