Five local community health centers will share $1.4 million in grants from the Sierra Health Foundation.

Cares Community Health is one of the recipients. CEO Bob Kamrath says the money will increase capacity for the expected influx of new patients insured under the Affordable Care Act.

"By adding additional providers, building out more facilities, and also just by increasing our efficiency of the use of the tools available to us," Kamrath said.

Sierra Health Foundation's CEO Chet Hewitt says the donations will help create an inter-connected system that lowers costs and delivers quality care.

"When you have access to insurance, the kind of care that you have access to, the quality of the particular kind of care, has an enormous effect on your health, the health of your children, and ultimately the health of the region," Hewitt said.
