Bay Bridge officials are tearing down a nine million dollar bike path entrance - that only stood for seven months.

The temporary structure is being torn down to make way for a new, permanent one. The Chronicle says it was put in place so a bike path could be ready when the new eastern span opened in September.

Officials have defended the cost, saying the bridge has always been about access and if they were going to get cars on the bridge by Labor Day, bikers and walkers needed to be there too.
